Recently, I had a craving for Vietnamese food and Vietopia came to mind. To my surprise, they moved to a new location since my last visit. They have a beautiful new restaurant across the freeway from Lakewood Church. My friend and I decided to give the new digs a try.

I ordered the Mango ice tea and it looked like a refreshing tropical delight. It is freshly brewed ice tea flavored with mango syrup and garnished with fresh mango slices. For my main course, I ordered the Clay Pot Chicken made with Jasmine rice risotto stir-fried with scallions, ginger, cilantro, and white meat chicken. I had them add fresh mushrooms to the dish and I really enjoyed it.

To start, my friend had the egg drop soup made with eggs, carrots, onion, and scallions and it had a lot of flavor with just a hint of smoke. He also ordered the Salt and Pepper Jalapeno Crispy Tofu with Brown rice, fresh vegetables, and Lemon Pepper Sauce. This was a surprise hit for both of us. In fact, we both agreed we would order these dishes again if we didn’t see so many things on the menu that we want to try next.

On Monday nights, Vietopia hosts their $48 Steak night. It’s a humongous ribeye steak for two people and marinated with their special fish sauce. They have a really reasonable wine list that I photographed here and will partner well with the steak and the restaurant’s soft lighting and elegant decor. Other dinner options include duck, lobster, prawns, and crab dishes, too.

If you are seeking a Peking Duck experience, here it is served with sweet buns and hoisin sauce and they will bring it to your table and prepare the entire duck (head and all) for around $48. Pair this with a nice bottle of wine, on any night, and it is a lovely dinner or date night experience. In fact, on my last visit to Shanghai, this was a must-do as a traveler and we ended up enjoying it at the same restaurant where former President George Bush famously enjoyed Peking duck on his visit.

Have you ever daydreamed about rebooting your favorite classic television shows with a modern twist? Bewitched has always been a beloved staple for me. Recently, I was playing around on IMDB when I discovered their somewhat social-media-esque dashboard where you can post reviews and lists, including lists of actors you would cast for shows and movies. This really got the hamster wheels moving! This was a creative exercise I could sink my teeth into. I started scouring IMDB for my dream team of actors, producers, and writers. This fabulous idea of mine, has in fact, been developed by multiple networks to remake and reboot Bewitched.….

Who would you cast? I can see Johnny Depp as Doctor Bombay, Kiernan Shipka as Samantha, and Sebastian Stan as Darrin. I would love to see Samantha with a witch’s familiar, at least the traditional black cat like the one seen in the Hannah Barbera animated show opener. I love the aesthetic that Marc Cherry brings to the set design of Desperate Housewives and Why Women Kill, so I would love to see him involved in the set design of the Bewitched reboot. I would also make Darrin’s boss, Larry, female. Enter Tiffany Haddish as La Retta Tate and her loving wife, Louise “LuLu” Tate played by Kate McKinnon. In 2011, CBS ordered a script for a Bewitched remake from writer Marc Lawrence and producers Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher, the married duo who also produced the 2005 film remake. In 2014, NBC gave a put-pilot commitment to a follow-up series, written by Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein, that would have followed Samantha’s granddaughter. And in 2018, black-ish creator Kenya Barris sold a Bewitched take, which he penned with Yamara Taylor, to ABC.

WandaVision paid homage to the show.
Not only was WandaVision’s second episode title sequence a spin on Bewitched’s animated intro, but the character of Agnes (Kathryn Hahn) lives in the Bewitched house, which is fitting because — spoiler alert — she’s a witch! Have you ever wanted to take a tour of the Bewitched house? Look no further….

In fact, the Bewitched house has been used many times over the years and has been seen in many other tv shows and movies including Lethal Weapon, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, the tv show Home Improvement, and the television show Gidget. In fact, the Director of Gidget, William Asher, was also the Director of Bewitched. In many episodes of Gidget, you can see the Samantha Stephens doll in Gidget’s bedroom. Later on, there is an episode where Gidget tries to deliver flowers to Elizabeth Montgomery, her neighbor across the street.

(Interesting side note: Gidget launched the show in full color while the network’s hit TV series, Bewitched, was still filmed in black and white.)

The house we have all come to know and love as Darrin & Samantha’s still stands today (the exterior) at the Warner Brothers Ranch (originally Screen Gems/Columbia), West Oak Street in Burbank, California. 1164 Morning Glory Cirlce, is the official address of the Stephens house and it is situated on a “circle” with many other famous homes used for other TV shows.

The Gidget house was also used for episodes of Bewitched including “Mrs. Parsons'” house (home to all the cats!) and Pleasure O’Reilly’s house, a sexy next door neighbor. The TV show The Monkees (1966-1968) filmed exterior shots of the guys being wacky on the ranch too.

Will there be a Bewitched reboot in the future? There seems to be some interest in developing the idea. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and maybe say a little spell.

Training for an ultramarathon is no small feat. These grueling events can test even the most experienced runners, and often require months of preparation. However, with the right mindset and training plan, anyone can get themselves ready for an ultramarathon. The first step is to build up your hiking and walking endurance. If you’re not used to spending hours on your feet, start by slowly increasing the distance and time you spend hiking and walking. Once you’re comfortable hiking for long periods of time, you can start incorporating marathon training into your routine. This means gradually increasing your mileage until you’re able to run the entire ultramarathon distance. ultramarathons are notoriously challenging, but with the proper preparation, they can be an immensely rewarding experience.

How Walking Keeps Your Brain Fit

Study co-author James A. Blumenthal, Ph.D., professor of psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center notes that exercise could help increase brain volume and blood flow, which appear to have an impact on the executive functions of the brain, including attention span, focus, and memory. “More active or physically fit individuals perform better on tasks involving executive functioning compared to sedentary ones,” says Blumenthal.

How Distance and Speed Play a Role

Some additional research found walking five miles per week had a protective effect on the structure of the brain during the decade-long study. In particular, older adults with mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease had a slower decline in memory loss over five years compared to those who walked less.

Moreover, a 2018 study published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, found a link between walking speed and cognitive function. Those who walked at a speed of fewer than 5 kilometers (3 miles) per hour were considered at risk of developing dementia later in life.

“From a biological perspective, there are several mechanisms we think could explain the link,” says Ruth Hackett, Ph.D., a research fellow at University College London. “Walking and cognition rely on similar brain regions, mainly in the prefrontal cortices [and], considering this overlap, it is plausible that a slowing of walking speed is a marker of decline in these brain areas.”
